FLOATING VILLAGE IN RIGA
Design of a floating bridge with mixed use in Riga
Year: SS2022
The project is located in Riga, across the river Daugava where the areas of Kipsala and Dzirciems meet. This site becomes a place of opportunities as there are many functions that can be offered. The site is characterized by being surrounded of two important universities centers, such as RISEBA and RTU.
One main starting point for the project was the strategic urban plan of Riga 2030, where Riga’s vision is to be the driving force of Latvia and a city of opportunities. The concept of a city that includes the society, is active and sustainable, compact and visionary was an inspiration for the project. Furthermore, in this plan, the area where the project is established is considered a priority area of development where interesting proposals of urban and space quality can be experimented.
I was inspired by the “village feeling” present in Kipsala Island, especially the configuration of the urban skyline towards the east waterfront of the island, where a secuence of “small houses” are displayed, creating a friendly human scale.
